Audition Casting
This morning we held an audition
for some of the roles in our drama. We interviewed and casted three actors.
Natasha has been given the lead role of Alicia. Davida has given the role of
the presenter and Glen has been given the role of Detective Hanson. Catriona
had to reschedule her audition due to a prior engagement time being pulled
forward but still has an interest in taking part in the project. It was the
first casting we have done as a production company. We found it an enjoyable
experience. We asked questions about the actor’s background and previous work
and got them to say their lines in the audition script. We set up the
University TV Studio in an audition style with a desk so that we could take
notes and took head shots and filmed them in the TV Studio. Videos and pictures
will be posted on the blog shortly. Latoya will contact the actors by Wednesday.
Structure of the
documentary
We talked more on the structuring
of the documentary. We have decided on a presenter for the documentary. We
talked about locations, what questions we will ask contributors. We also determined
what the presenter will do and how involved she will be with the project. Below
are some of the things we talked about.
Jo Jackson Questions
- Tell us
what you do
- How did
you get into working with gangs?
- Are
there any particular situations that have touched you?
- What are the methods you employ when
working with people?
- What brings people into gangs in the
first place?
- How
easy is it for people to leave gangs?
- Is it
more about the environment people live in or is it about the person?
Personal responsibilities vs environment?
- Do you
think the government is doing enough to prevent gang crime?
What are the motives for the
documentary?
Getting experiences and finding
the effects and seeing what people are doing about it.
Ask police – how many people
actually get sent down for their gang crimes? Do families search for justice as
much as retribution and forgiveness?
Combating Problems
We are having some problems with
actors as many that have applied do not fit the profiles that we are looking
for. We are still actively sourcing these. KMedia cannot film for us on the 27th.
Latoya has made contact with other filmmakers. We have found another
contributor called Dion, which has had experience with gang life. Catch 22 have
showed initial interest but have been unresponsive to Latoya’s emails and phone
calls. We need to find a family to get their experiences. We also have the
chance to get some good insights at a Gun and Gangs conference that is being
chaired by Jo Jackson. Filming this event (23rd March at 12-5pm)
will not only favour us as we get good insights into what the community is
doing about gang violence. We can give the footage to Jo as a thank you for his
help in the project.
Timetabling
Equipment and Edit Suites have
been booked for the next two months by Latoya. A new production schedule has
been placed on the blog. An in-depth schedule will be constructed shortly. A
contributor contact list with agreed filming dates has been constructed. Once
the script has been finished and actor’s availabilities have been confirmed,
Latoya will construct some call sheets.
